Today was a very long day. We had Cole at the hospital at 8am and after meeting with the medical crew, we finally got the surgery started around 10. The surgery took about 45 mins and then we met Cole in the recovery room where we stayed until about 11:30 until he recovered from the anaesthesia. The surgeon took the Broviac catheter out of the left side of his chest and installed the Port in the right side of his chest. He was a little concerned that the part of the catheter that goes inside his vein was going to be too big for the vein but he was confident enough that it would fit to attempt the surgery and it ended up fitting fine. The good thing is is that this catheter is wider than the old one so it won't clot easily. Hopefully we won't have to deal with it clotting at all. After the surgery we went to the clinic down the street and Cole got his Vinblastin chemo and we met with Dr. Kronish who was happy to see Cole looking so healthy. We also met with Sandy, Cole's Dietician, who told us that he is back on track weight-wise and has gained enough since our last meeting with her (up to 14lbs, 13oz) to put him back up in the 25th percentile. Yay! This means we can talk solids if he is still on track at our April 13th meeting. We finally got out of the clinic by 3 and Joe was determined to pick up Cole's birth certif. and social sec. card so we did that downtown Oakland and then we picked up Ruby from Heather's and were finally home by 6. Whew!
The next thing we have on our plate is CJ's CT scan which is planned to be the 2nd week of April. Dr. Kronish sounded confident it will look good considering his counts have been so good lately.
We thank you all for all your thoughts and prayers for us and Cole during his surgery. This has been a stessful, emotional and busy time for us and we couldn't make it through without our friends' and family's support. The surgery really was pretty simple but when it's on your 5mo old child, it's major. We continue to leave him in God's hands and he continues to bless us!!
