Praise God for Cole's health!! He has completed almost 8 months of treatment and the way things are going he only has 4 months left! If you didn't know he has been through as much as he has in the last 8 months, you would think he is a perfectly healthy baby. He looks so well, is thriving and developing totally normally. He is getting his first tooth, is eating baby food and is definitely interested in trying new foods! He is not gaining as much weight as our Nutritionist would like to see (he is only in the 10th percentile) so we still have the "special recipe" for his formula which is a little thicker than normal and we are adding butter to his baby food to add calories and fat. We drew labs yesterday at Oakland Kaiser and his counts looked good, even after his Vinblastin last week. The port is working great and is so much easier for us to manage since it is internal.
In the past month we also had some adventures upon us. Joe went to India for work for 2 weeks so the whole family flew up to Portland to get help with the kids from Grandma and Grandpa Kambeitz and visit friends before he left. While Joe was gone Holly took Cole to Boston and Nantucket for a week for fun and a break from reality! Cole was such a good traveler in the Ergo and was a great companion for Mom. Although it was so nice to get away for almost a month after being tied down at home and under a lot of stress for 6 months, we were so thankful to be back!
The next step for little CJ is an x-ray and ultrasound in July to see the status of his lesions. Doc is giving him a break from the CT scan which we will have done in October after his treatment is completed.
About Cole Kambeitz
- Holly Kambeitz
- Cole Jonathan Kambeitz was born October 5th, 2008. He was born with chicken pox-like lesions on his skin. After a CT scan, MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis (LCH) at 3 days old. It affects his skin, liver and lungs. He completed treatment of 1 year of chemo and steroids and after a liver biopsy in late November '09 confirming no active disease, he is officially in remission. Today he is a very happy boy, excited to explore the world.

Nils is also in the 10th percentile! I think I'll start adding butter in his cereal as well! So glad Cole is doing great!
