Today we received the GREAT news that the liver tissue biopsied was "normal" liver tissue, in Cole's case, scar tissue. I almost couldn't believe my ears as I was prepared for the worst news. This means he will stay off all treatment and have check-ups every 3 months by either CT, x-ray or ultrasound.
Cole's condition is new to Dr. McClain (leading doctor of Histio), never seeing spots remaining on organs after treatment is completed which is why we did the biopsy. Dr. Goodman said that this is such a weird and rare disease and every case is different. It is a little scary that Dr. McClain has never seen this before but seeing how healthy Cole is and that his biopsy was "normal" we feel confident keeping him off treatment.
What a good time to receive great news and give thanks!! Thank you so much for all your prayers and encouragement. Happy Thanksgiving to you all and God bless!!
About Cole Kambeitz
- Holly Kambeitz
- Cole Jonathan Kambeitz was born October 5th, 2008. He was born with chicken pox-like lesions on his skin. After a CT scan, MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis (LCH) at 3 days old. It affects his skin, liver and lungs. He completed treatment of 1 year of chemo and steroids and after a liver biopsy in late November '09 confirming no active disease, he is officially in remission. Today he is a very happy boy, excited to explore the world.
