About Cole Kambeitz

My photo
Cole Jonathan Kambeitz was born October 5th, 2008. He was born with chicken pox-like lesions on his skin. After a CT scan, MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis (LCH) at 3 days old. It affects his skin, liver and lungs. He completed treatment of 1 year of chemo and steroids and after a liver biopsy in late November '09 confirming no active disease, he is officially in remission. Today he is a very happy boy, excited to explore the world.

6/11/10, Friday- Progress!

Sorry I haven't updated Cole's blog in a while but he has just been doing so well! He continues to amaze us at how healthy he is, how tall he's getting and how smart he is. I was just looking back on the first few posts that we wrote and I can't believe how much he went through as an infant. He has come so far and still every night when I put him to bed I thank God for him and his health. I never take a day for granted. He is starting to talk; he says "ball", "bubble", "mama", "dada", "na na na" (for "no, no, no"), "ba ba" (for "bottle") and is very expressive when he wants to tell us something. He uses his body language to direct us to what he wants and makes sure we always get it for him! He eats A LOT and always wants to be outside. His favorite thing to do is take a walk on our street.

So next week is a big week for our little man. Tuesday he has his monthly check-up with Dr. Goodman as well as a blood draw which he is now getting every 3 mos. When he had his port and was on chemo he was having it drawn monthly to check his counts which was easy and pain-free but now it will be through his arm which I know will not be fun. Then on Wednesday I got a call from his pediatrician saying that he should get his "non-live" immunizations soon. His immune system is still not strong enough for the "live" immunizations so those he will get in October. So he will get his "non-live" on Thursday after his first well-baby appointment. This will only be the second time he has seen his pediatrician! Crazy! Please pray these appointments go smoothly!

Joe is leaving for India on the 22nd for 10 days so Ruby, Cole and I will be on our own for a while and then head to Tahoe to be with my parents for a week. It has finally stopped snowing there and we will hopefully enjoy some summer weather!! We hope you all are enjoying your summer's so far!!
