About Cole Kambeitz

My photo
Cole Jonathan Kambeitz was born October 5th, 2008. He was born with chicken pox-like lesions on his skin. After a CT scan, MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis (LCH) at 3 days old. It affects his skin, liver and lungs. He completed treatment of 1 year of chemo and steroids and after a liver biopsy in late November '09 confirming no active disease, he is officially in remission. Today he is a very happy boy, excited to explore the world.

1/6/10, Thursday- A New Year Ahead

It's been a while since we've updated on Cole so I thought I would fill you in on what's been going on with our little man! He's doing great. We are so thankful for his health and never want to take this for granted. I don't think of his disease on a daily basis like I used to, sometimes I have to remind myself of how sick he really was and of the horrible disease he still has. We go on living our "normal" ways until I read another blog of a seriously ill child with histiocytosis or some kind of cancer and remind myself this is where my child was and not to take for granted his health. These are the times I want to reach out for Cole and just squeeze him, cry tears of happiness and thank God for all the happiness he's given us lately with our boy! But it is usually at night when he's sleeping so I'd rather hold out 'til the morning than put up with his screeching cries of unhappiness while I wake him!

We had an exciting week this week with Cole starting his first day of "school". He goes where Ruby goes at our church's preschool so he was already a little familiar with it. He was a little intimidated at first with all the "little angels" (this is what it is called) but when we all walked out to the play yard, he saw the basketballs and forgot about me! We think he'll do great and adjust in no time.

He had a great Christmas, getting everything from a toy pet hamster with a car & garage from Grandma Sharon & Grandpa Bruce to a train spin top and spider man fold out couch. He got to spend the day with G&G and Uncle Dan. Next on to-do list is to go up Tahoe at the end of Jan. to visit Uncle Rick, Aunt Lecia and cousin Pamela when they come from Spokane.

We want to remember Great Grandma Ruth as she passed Dec. 17th. We would go out and visit and play at her house quite often and she adored Cole. She touched our hearts when she wished to have contributions made to histio in lieu of flowers for her funeral. We love her and miss her!

Cole's next visit to the clinic is the 26th for a full physical. We will update and let you know how that goes. Thanks for checking up on our lil man!!
