So this is the time we've been waiting for... for Cole's treatment to end. He stopped taking his meds last week. No more chemo, no more prednisolone, no more worries about counts, no more terrorizing fits from the steroids. Tomorrow is Cole's CT scan at 2pm. This is standard for anyone ending treatment, just to make sure there isn't anything they are missing internally. We've been through this twice before but this time will be the hardest since Radiology changed the diet restrictions, now saying patients cannot eat anything after midnight. So we will have a starving baby on our hands from when he wakes up in the morning until around 3pm. We will fill him up on jello, pedialyte, and chicken broth.
It is hard not to think about where we were at this time last year. Cole was admitted in to the hospital for a pseudomonas infection and dangerous low weight. We were spending 8 hours/day there and anxiously waiting for him to get healthier and stronger. We did not know if he would stay with us or if he would be overcome by this horrible disease. We've come so far and we thank all of you for your prayers and support!!
We should know the results of his scan by Thursday and will update the blog then.

- Cole Jonathan Kambeitz was born October 5th, 2008. He was born with chicken pox-like lesions on his skin. After a CT scan, MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis (LCH) at 3 days old. It affects his skin, liver and lungs. He completed treatment of 1 year of chemo and steroids and after a liver biopsy in late November '09 confirming no active disease, he is officially in remission. Today he is a very happy boy, excited to explore the world.
