About Cole Kambeitz

My photo
Cole Jonathan Kambeitz was born October 5th, 2008. He was born with chicken pox-like lesions on his skin. After a CT scan, MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis (LCH) at 3 days old. It affects his skin, liver and lungs. He completed treatment of 1 year of chemo and steroids and after a liver biopsy in late November '09 confirming no active disease, he is officially in remission. Today he is a very happy boy, excited to explore the world.

9/24, Friday- H4AC!

Tomorrow we head up to Yosemite to join the Hike for a Cure! We are really looking forward to this and cannot wait to meet more histio families. Thanks to Ron & Colleen, the organizers for the event, we are able to stay in Curry Village in a hardwall cabin along with everyone else. The hardwall cabins are supposed to be quieter and have their own bathroom rather than the regular tent cabins. This will help us having Cole be so young, waking up at any little sound and needing his nap. The hike is Sunday and Joe and I will be leading a group of hikers to the bridge at 10am which is about 2 miles from where we are staying. I am looking forward to meeting Kristin Akin who lost both of her boys to HLH in the past year after having 4 bone marrow transplants between the 2 of them. She has an amazing story. Her and her husband have recently adopted a little boy, William who is now 1 month old and is an absolute gift from above. Hearing her story is a constant reminder of how blessed we are to have our precious Cole to love and hold every day.

Thanks to all of your help, we have raised over $1,000 toward histio for H4AC! We will update with pictures and news when we return.
