About Cole Kambeitz

My photo
Cole Jonathan Kambeitz was born October 5th, 2008. He was born with chicken pox-like lesions on his skin. After a CT scan, MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis (LCH) at 3 days old. It affects his skin, liver and lungs. He completed treatment of 1 year of chemo and steroids and after a liver biopsy in late November '09 confirming no active disease, he is officially in remission. Today he is a very happy boy, excited to explore the world.

9/8/10, Wednesday- Update

We are nearing the end of another summer- the coldest summer in 30 years here in the Bay Area- and we are still hoping for an Indian summer. Cole has been well and has enjoyed his cold summer here in Oakland going to parks, bbq's, and long walks with Mom in the hills. We just recently took a trip to our family cottage up near Spokane, WA and we all had a great time with family. Cole's favorite part of that visit was jumping off the "elephant" rock with Grandpa Bruce. Then we traveled over to the Portland area and visited Joe's parents and some close friends there. Grandma Joan had a whole basement full of toys there for him and Ruby. What fun!

Cole had another monthly exam yesterday and it was also time for him to have a blood draw to take a look at his counts. We mainly look for signs of inflammation that might signal active disease. His exam went well and the blood test results came back fine. Next month marks his 1 year off-treatment (yay!) and he will have an x-ray & ultrasound and if all looks fine we will go to having these tests every 6mos. instead of every 3. I believe this is true for the blood tests as well. We will also only have to see Dr. Goodman for exams every 3mos. instead of every month. So our little man turns 2 next month and these will all be very welcomed birthday gifts!

We will also be heading to Yosemite on Sept. 25th to gather with other Histio families and heroes and Hike for a Cure!!!! Please donate in honor of his birthday for little Cole and all who fight this awful disease.
