About Cole Kambeitz

My photo
Cole Jonathan Kambeitz was born October 5th, 2008. He was born with chicken pox-like lesions on his skin. After a CT scan, MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis (LCH) at 3 days old. It affects his skin, liver and lungs. He completed treatment of 1 year of chemo and steroids and after a liver biopsy in late November '09 confirming no active disease, he is officially in remission. Today he is a very happy boy, excited to explore the world.

1/8, Thursday- CT scan

Today we had Cole's second CT scan - a day we've been waiting for since he was diagnosed with LCH. Preparing for this test was a little stressful because Cole couldn't drink breastmilk for 4 hours in advance but we had to forcefeed him Gastrografin (given to enhance contrast of his organs) which took an hour and a half and he was crying the whole time. The scan was done at 1:30 and we got the results from our Dr. at 3:30. They were very good!! Praise God!! There were still visible spots on his lungs and liver but instead of being cm in length they were mm in length and Dr. Kronish thinks they are most likely just scars from the lesions. Dr. Kronish also said that "worst case scenario, there is incredible improvement." He thinks they are all healed and we are now moving to what is referred to as "maintenence mode." This will be easier b/c it won't require nearly as many visits to the clinic a week. This will last until he is 1 year old and we will be given details of the maintenance meds next Tuesday. We were very happy about today's results for Cole but we feel we still have a long way to go until we feel fully confident he will beat this disease.

Thank you for all your prayers & support, this means so much to us!!
