This week starts the "maintenance mode" for Cole. These are the changes:
- The intravenous chemo (Vinblastin) he has been getting every week he will now get every 3 weeks.
- He will start on a new oral chemo drug (6mp) and have that Mondays and Thursdays at home. This works in a different way than Vinblastin and will most likely be easier on his counts.
- The Prednisolone he has been getting 6 doses a week he will now get 10 doses every 3 weeks.
- He will remain on Bactrim which will fight potential pneumonia
We will continue to draw labs once weekly to check his counts and the less frequent Vinblastin will cause us less trips to the clinic per week. Yay! Maybe someday soon Holly can get that pedicure?!
We will continue this until Cole is 1 year, yes, 1 year. Seems like so long. Little Cole is such a hero and continues to amaze us with how well he is doing. He is at 11 lbs 5 oz now and smiles so much.
He will have his next ct scan in April and we're assuming every 3 mos until the 1 year mark. Mom and Dad left him in the nursery at church for the first time this weekend and he did great! I guess we are finally feeling a little more comfortable now.
About Cole Kambeitz
- Holly Kambeitz
- Cole Jonathan Kambeitz was born October 5th, 2008. He was born with chicken pox-like lesions on his skin. After a CT scan, MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis (LCH) at 3 days old. It affects his skin, liver and lungs. He completed treatment of 1 year of chemo and steroids and after a liver biopsy in late November '09 confirming no active disease, he is officially in remission. Today he is a very happy boy, excited to explore the world.

You Rock Cole!!
Love Rick and Lecia Hatch
A new beginning, a milestone, lots of milestones when I think about it. Wonderful treatment news, so much easier on his little system. Congratulations all the way around. Cole is so blessed to have you both for his parents and Ruby for a big sis! You're all in our prayers as always. Love, Uncle Dan & Lynne
