About Cole Kambeitz

My photo
Cole Jonathan Kambeitz was born October 5th, 2008. He was born with chicken pox-like lesions on his skin. After a CT scan, MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis (LCH) at 3 days old. It affects his skin, liver and lungs. He completed treatment of 1 year of chemo and steroids and after a liver biopsy in late November '09 confirming no active disease, he is officially in remission. Today he is a very happy boy, excited to explore the world.

Monday 11-17 - Big week ahead

This is Cole's big week with the Dr.'s. Today is his last Chemo treatment on the standard protocol. So this marks 6 weeks of treatment and is a big accomplishment as he seems to be responding very well.

On Tuesday - he'll be getting a CT scan that allows the DRs to see how his liver and lungs are doing. We wont know the results of this until Friday. Cole has to take some special meds before the scan.. Not sure what, but we'll be getting those on Monday.

On Friday - the big meeting w/ the Oncologist to see how he is progressing. We think he's improving, but we really wont know until we see the report on how his liver/lungs are doing.

In the past week, Cole has been home eating and getting bigger each day. He doesn't look yellow and looks really good now. We've been doing fine keeping up with 2 kids and the special medical things we need to do to keep the catheter clean. On Friday Joe had to drop of his blood and the main hospital was completely crowded with 30 people ahead of him in line. Joe found a nice Dr that told him he could drop of labs at another point on the campus so a 5 min drive and 5 mins in/out and it was all dropped off.. Praise God for not having to wait for an hour to drop of labs.

-- UPDATE:
Good news - he gained more weight - chubby lil buddy is now a 7lbs 14oz...
Bad news.. No chemo today as Cole's ANC levels were low.. He was at risk for infection so they decided not to do it today and do it tomorrow after he comes out of the CT scan. So most likely he'll spend the night in the hospital on Tuesday night and at worst Wednesday to see how he reacts to chemo.
