About Cole Kambeitz

My photo
Cole Jonathan Kambeitz was born October 5th, 2008. He was born with chicken pox-like lesions on his skin. After a CT scan, MRI, x-ray, ultrasound, and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Hystiocytosis (LCH) at 3 days old. It affects his skin, liver and lungs. He completed treatment of 1 year of chemo and steroids and after a liver biopsy in late November '09 confirming no active disease, he is officially in remission. Today he is a very happy boy, excited to explore the world.

Sunday 10-26 a good day

Today is a good day - lots of good news. I guess we got to get used to having good days and bad days some days in between.

The good news:
1) Cole had a transfusion of 40ml of red blood. His hemoglobin levels must have been low, don't know the exact count. But that's usually what happens - it drops and then they transfusion then he looks a lot better.
2) His white blood count (ANC) is greater than 1,000 - the nurse thinks it was like 1,300. That's a huge difference from yesterday when it was only at 352. So now that it's over 1,000 he can begin therapy again.
3) Chemo tomorrow - that's good news in that it was only delayed a few days so he's basically still on track.
4) He is off his Neuopgin (G-CSF) drug that was used to increase his white blood count. It was a 7 day treatment and it's all done. That's good. One less drug for him. I have a feeling he may go on it again if his ANC drops, but hey what do I know..
5) His weight is up to 2.9KG which is 6lbs 6oz. He's almost at his birth weight. Just a few ounces shy. That's really good. He's been a gobbling away. He took down a whole bottle and then another little bit more after that. So he's on the big gobble gobble track to gain weight.

So that's it for now... What a difference a day can make. It's nice to know prayers are answered and his healing is progressing. We want to thank you so much for all your prayers and thoughts.
